Peggy's
Cove
Begin with a drive along
Nova Scotia
's famous
Lighthouse Route
, a beautiful coastal drive that takes you past picturesque coastal
villages and inlets to the rugged fishing community of Peggy's Cove.
Our first stop will be at Nautel for a visit and tours of this
unique facility. Nautel
is a global leader in the design, manufacture, sales and support of
high power Radio Frequency (RF) products for AM and FM broadcast.
After this fascinating stop we will make our way to lunch (on
own) where you will have an opportunity to enjoy some fresh, local
seafood.
After
lunch we continue down to Peggy’s Cove with its breathtaking
location on a narrow, coastal inlet characterized by wave-worn
granite boulders and crashing surf, it's easy to see why this
charming little village is perhaps
Canada
's most photographed site. The lighthouse still serves as a
beacon to fishermen and it once served as a post office with
its own commemorative stamp.
Peggy's Cove has inspired artists the world over,
including famous marine artist William deGarthe. As a last
memorial to the local fishermen, Mr. deGarthe worked on a 40-foot
granite sculpture for seven years; however he pasted away
before it was completed. It was later finished by one of his
sons.
From here travel up the road to Acadian Maple
Products. Although the
season is long over you can visit the
interpretive center to learn all about maple syrup. Daily video
presentations will explain the production methods of maple syrup
past and present. Learn about maple syrup grades, the harvest, the
work involved. Be sure
to purchase some of those sweet treats.
